Yeh ‘Aag’ kab bujegi?

n2403.jpgThe most talked about film of the year — Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag — with a top of the line star cast and a story already proven to be a legend has turned to be a damp squib. Despite the fact that the film had an impeccable star cast and a well-tested storyline, it still hasn’t helped RGV much.

Ramu himself didn’t mince words when it came to the verdict on his film, but then when you do take on the massive task of remaking India’s best known classic ‘Sholay’, you do invite a lot of attention. However, in this case, the wasn’t exactly forthcoming from the film fraternity as despite the huge publicity and media frenzy the movie, it turned out to be a no show.

The lacklustre premiere almost mirrored the dragged performances in the film as it was hardly attended by the film fraternity including the star cast of the movie. One of the biggest releases this year, the film’s premiere didn’t exactly have stars spilling onto the red carpet. While the Big B and film’s leading lady Sushmita were the only credible cast members to risk it, conspicuous by their absence were Ajay Devgan and southern superstar Mohanlal. In fact, Big B, like most of the audience abandoned the film after watching the first half and smartly saved himself further trauma by chosing to not return post interval.

Poor Ramu had to be content with the lesser Gods showing up and staying put till the very end (hats off them) — a definite contrast to the premiere of Sarkar. Bollywood is certainly a fickle place indeed.

When quizzed about the response the movie has generated, the creator of this magnum opus – Ram Gopal Varma confessed, “People won’t like it.”

Though, the movie has not generated much interest, it’s to be seen as to when RGV decides to announce his next venture. As for now, he doesn’t seem to be enjoying much clout with members of his erstwhile camp. The moral of the story — somethings are better left undone.
